2.16.010 Office established.

The office of borough mayor is established in accordance with Section 29.23.130 of the Alaska Statutes, passed during the second session of the seventh Alaska State Legislature, 1972.  The office shall be an elective office. (Ord. 33 §1, 1973).

2.16.012 Term.

The mayor shall serve a term of office as follows:

A.  Commencing with the 2006 election, the mayor shall serve a two-year term commencing on the first Monday following certification of the election.

B.  Commencing with the 2008 election and thereafter, the mayor shall serve a three-year term commencing on the first Monday following certification of the election.  (Ord. 2006-07, 2006).

2.16.015 Qualifications.

A borough resident is eligible to be mayor if he has resided in the borough for at least one year immediately prior to the filing of a nominating petition and is a qualified voter of the borough.  A mayor who ceases to be a borough voter immediately forfeits his office.  (Ord. 94-8 (part), 1994:  Ord. 76-33 §2, 1976:  Ord. 33 §1(b), 1973).

2.16.020 Compensation.

The mayor shall be paid seventy-five dollars per month and an additional sum of seventy-five dollars per day for each authorized assembly meeting, any preauthorized workshop or board meeting representing the borough.  (Ord. 2018-04 (part), 2018:  Ord. 99-2 §2, 1999:  Ord. 95-9 §2, 1995:  Ord. 93-18 §2, 1993:  Ord. 80-8 §2, 1980:  Ord. 79-8 §2, 1979:  Ord. 75-1 §3, 1975;  Ord. 33 §2, 1973).
