SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION

4.100.010 Established.

There is established the Fairbanks North Star Borough senior citizens advisory commission which shall consist of nine voting members to be appointed by the borough mayor and confirmed by the assembly. Members shall be appointed with due regard for their interest in the broad spectrum of issues relating to senior citizen concerns and activities. 4.100.020 Qualifications.

Members of the commission shall be residents of the borough and have a wide range of interests in issues relating to the health, morale and welfare of senior citizens, and shall be representative of the different geographical areas of the borough. (Ord. 94-080 § 2, 1994. 2004 Code § 2.70.020.)

4.100.030 Ex officio members.

The following persons may sit as ex officio members of the commission:

A. The borough mayor or designee;

B. Director of parks and recreation or designee. (Ord. 94-080 § 2, 1994. 2004 Code § 2.70.030.)

4.100.040 Responsibilities.

It shall be the responsibility of the senior citizens advisory commission to:

A. Advise the mayor and the assembly with respect to aspects which bear upon the welfare of senior citizens, that are within the limited powers of a second class borough;

B. Conduct surveys and compile and disseminate, for the benefit of senior citizens, information on housing, health, nutrition, transportation, education, recreation, legal services, and social/mental health services;

C. Carry out educational and public relations programs designed to create public awareness to the needs of senior citizens and the community services which seniors can provide;

D. Assist and provide programs that alert elderly persons of the resources and services available to them;

E. Perform other such duties and functions as may from time to time be authorized, directed or assigned by the mayor. (Ord. 94-080 § 2, 1994. 2004 Code § 2.70.040.)
