4.72.010 Created.

A. There is created the Fairbanks North Star Borough library commission.

B. The commission shall consist of nine members who shall be residents of the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The borough library director, the borough attorney and the chief financial officer shall be nonvoting members. (Ord. 92-073 § 2, 1992; Ord. 90-019 § 4, 1990. 2004 Code § 2.32.012.)

4.72.020 Duties and responsibilities.

The library commission shall hear appeals of the decisions of the library’s selection committee on requests for reconsideration of materials. Appeal to the commission shall be the final administrative remedy in this appeal process. The commission’s decision may be appealed to the superior court in accordance with the Alaska Rules of Appellate Procedure.

The library commission shall:

A. Advise the mayor on policies and procedures desirable for library operation and the use of the library fund;

B. Provide input to the library director on long-range plans for library facilities and services; and

C. Perform all necessary and proper acts, within the organizational framework of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, which will facilitate development of and maintain excellence in library programs. (Ord. 2017-13 § 3, 2017; Ord. 93-017 § 3, 1993; Ord. 90-019 § 4, 1990. 2004 Code § 2.32.022.)
