2.32.010 Department established.

There is established, in accordance with Title 29, the police department. Executive and administrative duties are vested in the police chief. (Prior code § 2.40.010)

2.32.020 Appointment.

The police chief shall be appointed by the mayor and serve at the pleasure of the mayor. (Ord. 01-02 § 4, 2001: prior code § 2.40.020)

2.32.030 Duties.

The duties of the chief shall be to develop for council adoption the necessary ordinances and budget to govern and operate the police department and to assemble the personnel, facilities, equipment and supplies necessary to field a police force. The chief shall rely on the Draft Wasilla Police Department Conceptual Design and subsequent guidance from city ordinance and the mayor/manager to develop the department. The chief shall manage the department. (Prior code § 2.40.030)

2.32.040 Mission.

The police department shall be responsible for the preservation of public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime and apprehension of offenders of the law, the protection of persons and property, the enforcement of the law, and other duties for the general public welfare as may from time to time be assigned. (Prior code § 2.40.040)
