CANDIDATE’S STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

1.86.010 Statement of qualifications.

Pursuant to Section 10012 of the Elections Code of the State of California, each candidate for elective office to be voted for at any municipal election to be held in the City may prepare a candidate’s statement on an appropriate form provided by the City Clerk. Such statement may include the name, age and occupation of the candidate and a brief description of no more than 200 words of the candidate’s education and qualifications expressed by the candidate himself. Such statement shall not include party affiliation of the candidate, nor membership or activity in partisan political organizations. Such statement may be withdrawn but not changed during the period for filing nomination papers and until 5:00 p.m. of the next working day after the close of the nomination period. (Ord. 1787)

1.86.020 Federal Voting Rights Act.

The City Clerk shall provide a Spanish translation of the candidate’s statement to be included in the voter’s pamphlet and mailed with the sample ballot to each registered voter in the City, if the candidate requests such statement in Spanish. (In compliance with the amendments to the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, Public Law 94-73, August 6, 1975.)

1.86.030 Cost of candidate’s statement.

A. Each candidate filing a candidate’s statement shall be billed for the services rendered, a sum not greater than the actual prorated costs of printing and handling, and such bill shall be due and payable immediately upon receipt thereof.

B. Each candidate may request a Spanish translation of the statement of qualifications but the candidate may not be billed for the additional cost of preparing candidate’s statement in Spanish nor for translation costs thereof.

1.86.040 Copy of statement of qualifications.

The City Clerk shall provide each candidate or the candidate’s representative a copy of this chapter at the time nomination petitions are issued.
