13.07.010 Purpose of chapter.

The purpose of this chapter is to provide a procedure which may be used by the City for the adoption, amendment and enforcement of engineering design standards and construction specifications for use by the City and others in connection with the design and construction of public infrastructure within the City. Those adopted standards shall be known as the “Dixon Engineering Design Standards and Construction Specifications” and are referred to in this chapter as the “Design and Construction Standards.” [Ord. 12-004.]

13.07.020 Method of adoption of standards.

The Design and Construction Standards shall be adopted by resolution of the City Council, which resolution may refer to a copy of the Design and Construction Standards on file in the office of the City Clerk instead of including the text of said Design and Construction Standards as a part of or as an attachment to the resolution. 13.07.030 Clerk to maintain copy for public inspection and copying.

The City Clerk shall attach a true copy of the adopted resolution to the copy of the Design and Construction Standards to which the resolution refers and shall maintain said copy in the office of the City Clerk at all times for public inspection and copying. The City Clerk may cause said Design and Construction Standards to be published in booklet form and provided to members of the public at the cost incurred by the City in publishing said document. 13.07.040 Amendment of standards.

The Design and Construction Standards may be amended from time to time by resolution of the City Council containing the text of the amendments as an attachment referred to in said resolution or resolutions. [Ord. 12-004.]

13.07.050 Deviation from standards.

The City Engineer is authorized to approve minor deviations from the Design and Construction Standards under circumstances in which he or she determines that such deviations are deemed reasonable and necessary and will be consistent with the intent of the adopted Design and Construction Standards. 13.07.060 Alternative methods of construction.

The City Engineer is authorized to approve materials or construction methods not contained in the Design and Construction Standards which he or she determines will result in the project meeting the contemplated durability and safety requirements of the Design and Construction Standards.
