6.08.010 Generally.
The words and terms used in this title shall have the meaning stated as set forth in this chapter, unless the meaning is clearly intended to be otherwise. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.020 Department of animal services.
The “department of animal services” means that department of the county government which is specifically charged with the regulation of animals and the enforcement of laws dealing with animals within the city of Hughson, pursuant to contract entered into with the county of Stanislaus. 6.08.030 Animal control center.
“Animal control center” means the facilities where impounded animals are held. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.050 Health department.
“Health department” means the health department of the county. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.060 Health officer.
“Health officer” means the health officer of the county. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.065 Household pets.
“Household pets” means animals permitted in the house and kept for company or pleasure such as: dogs, cats, domesticated small animals such as hamsters and guinea pigs, and birds, not including a sufficient number to constitute a kennel, as defined in this chapter. Household pets shall not include cows, horses, goats, hogs, sheep, chickens, or other farm or exotic animals. (Ord. 90-16 § 1, 1990; Ord. 90-14 § 1, 1990)
6.08.070 Impoundment.
“Impoundment” means the taking and holding of an animal by the animal services director. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.080 Kennel.
“Kennel” means a place where three or more dogs over four months of age are kept for commercial or noncommercial purposes. The term kennel shall not apply to animal control shelters operated by governmental agencies or nonprofit societies for the care of stray animals or to veterinary hospitals. 6.08.082 Exceptions.
Notwithstanding HMC 6.08.080 of this chapter, no place where three or more dogs over four months of age are kept, for commercial or noncommercial purposes, shall be a kennel if the dogs were present, and registered with the Hughson police department as being present, at that place on or before September 1, 1993. Death, loss or permanent relocation of a registered dog shall not entitle the owners or any other person at that place to replace such registered dog, however, without otherwise complying with HMC 6.08.080 and with Chapter 6.24 HMC, as well as all other applicable laws, rules and regulations. 6.08.090 Licensing authority.
“Licensing authority” means the county clerk or such other county department designated by resolution of the board of supervisors. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.100 Owner.
“Owner” means a person who owns, possesses, harbors or controls an animal. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.110 Person.
“Person” means one or more human beings and all fictional entities such as corporations, estates, associations, partnerships, and trusts. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.120 Rabies vaccination.
“Rabies vaccination” means the inoculation of an animal with a rabies vaccine approved by and in the manner prescribed by the California State Department of Public Health. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
6.08.130 Veterinarian.
“Veterinarian” means a person licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of California. (Ord. 89-04 § 2, 1989)
