13.24.010 Adoption by reference.

The city adopts, by reference, the Uniform Sign Code, 1997 Edition ("Uniform Sign Code"), which has been published by the International Conference of Building Officials subject to the revisions and additions set forth in this chapter, which, together, constitute the rules and regulations for the purposes of regulating and controlling the design, quality of materials, construction, location, electrification and maintenance of all signs and sign structures not located within a building in the city, providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; provided, however, that the amounts of any such fees as set forth in the Uniform Sign Code are not adopted but, instead, all fees authorized or provided for by the Uniform Sign Code shall be in an amount established by resolution of the city council.

One copy of the Uniform Sign Code is on file in the office of the building official for public use and examination and, from the operative date of the ordinance codified in this section, the provisions thereof, subject to any amendments adopted by the city, shall be controlling within the corporate limits of the city. 13.24.021 Section 403.7 added—Projection and clearance.

Section 403 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following subsection:

403.7 No permit shall be issued for any sign and no sign shall be constructed or maintained which has less horizontal or vertical clearance from communications lines and energized electrical power lines than that prescribed by the laws of the State of California or rules and regulations duly promulgated by agencies thereof.

13.24.030 Table 4-B amended—Projection of signs.

Table 4-B—Projection of Signs of the Uniform Sign Code hereby adopted is amended to read as follows:

13.24.040 Section 1201(a) added—Signs under marquee.

Section 1201 of the Uniform Sign Code hereby adopted is amended as follows:

(a)    Incandescent or fluorescent plastic covered signs may be attached under the marquee providing an 8'6" clearance is maintained between the bottom of the sign and the sidewalk. The sign shall be limited to not more than 16' in depth and not to exceed 6 square feet per face area.

13.24.050 Removal of signs by city order.

In the event that any sign is installed, erected, constructed hereafter and is not in compliance with the provisions of the chapter, the building official shall notify the responsible party to alter the sign so as to either comply with this chapter and obtain the necessary permit, or to remove the sign. If the order is not complied within ten days, the building official shall have the sign removed at the expense of the owner or lessee, as the case may be.
