Article 1. COUNCIL OFFICERS AND DUTIES

150 Purpose.

This Chapter contains a portion of the general policies and rules of interpretation pertaining to the operations of the City Council of the City of Marysville and to the official conduct of its members.

151 Council Officers. Established.

There are two officers of the City Council, which shall be the Mayor and Vice Mayor, respectively.

152 Mayor. Presiding Officer. Duties of.

The Mayor shall be the presiding officer and shall preside at all meetings of the City Council at which he is present, on any matter under consideration by the Council in which he is not otherwise prohibited from participating pursuant to law and policy.

(a)    In the absence of the Mayor, the Vice Mayor shall have all the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor.

(b)    The Mayor shall represent the Council at ceremonial events and at such gatherings as the Council directs.

(c)    The Mayor shall preserve order and decorum at all meetings of the City Council.

(d)    The Mayor shall direct the order of business coming before the City Council in session.

(e)    The Mayor shall decide questions of order.

(f)    The Mayor shall execute resolutions, ordinances and proclamations approved and passed by the City Council on behalf of the city.

(g)    The Mayor shall appoint the chairmen and members of all standing committees of the Council, which appointments shall be presented to the Council in session.

(h)    The Mayor shall appoint members of the Council to serve on all standing and ad hoc committees, councils, boards and commissions on which the City Council is represented, which appointments shall be presented to the Council in session.

Article 2. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS

165 Appointment. Eligibility.

The Mayor is a charter officer elected by the electors for the term of office specified in the charter. Nothing in this Chapter shall abridge or otherwise limit the right of the Mayor to carry out the duties of office to which he was elected. The Vice Mayor shall be appointed by the Mayor from among the whole membership of the Council, excepting the Mayor.

166 Timing of Appointment. Term of Office.

Appointment of Vice Mayor shall be held at the first regular Council meeting in December of each year, and at such other times as a vacancy in that office occurs.
