2.55.010 Establishment and purpose.

A Human Rights Advisory Committee is created by the City Council of the City of Palmdale to act in an advisory capacity to the Mayor, City Council and City Manager. The purpose of the Palmdale Human Rights Advisory Committee is to provide advice and actionable recommendations to the Mayor, City Council and City Manager in their efforts to build and maintain an inclusive community by cultivating awareness, increasing diversity, encouraging sensitivity, promoting equity, and improving relations with various segments of the community. 2.55.020 Membership.

The Palmdale Human Rights Advisory Committee shall have seven members. All Committee members shall be appointed pursuant to PMC 2.08.030. (Ord. 1550 § 1, 2020)

2.55.030 Term of office.

The term of each Committee member shall be two years, commencing on the date of appointment. A Committee member may be reappointed for additional terms. All Committee members serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and City Council. Any vacancy on the Committee shall be filled pursuant to PMC 2.08.030. (Ord. 1550 § 1, 2020)

2.55.040 Qualifications.

The Mayor and Council shall strive to approve Committee members with experience in any of the following areas: education; housing; employment; race relations; social equity; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights; gender equality; civil rights; and the rights of any other minority or historically marginalized communities.
