2.12.010 Election to receive aid.
The city declares that it desires to qualify to receive aid from the state of California under the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 4, Part 4 of the California Penal Code. (Ord. 212 § 1, 1963)
2.12.020 Adherence to peace officer training standards.
Pursuant to Section 13522 of Chapter 1 of Title 4, Part 4 of the California Penal Code, the city, while receiving aid from the state of California pursuant to said Chapter 1, will adhere to the standards for recruitment and training established by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training. 2.12.025 Adherence to state standards for selection and training of public safety dispatchers.
A. Pursuant to Section 13510(c), Chapter 1 of the California Penal Code, the Palos Verdes Estates police department will adhere to standards for recruitment and training established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
B. Pursuant to Section 13512, Chapter 1, the Commission and its representatives may make such inquiries as deemed appropriate by the Commission to ascertain that the Palos Verdes Estates police department’s public safety dispatcher personnel adhere to standards for selection and training established by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. 2.12.030 Adherence to Board of Corrections standards.
While receiving any state aid pursuant to Article 3 commencing with Section 6040 of the Penal Code of the state, the city will adhere to the standards for selection and training established by the Board of Corrections. (Ord. 431 § 1, 1986)
2.12.040 Additional compensation for shooting skill.
A. The city treasurer is authorized to pay members of the police department whose duties are those of regular police officers, in addition to the salary fixed by resolution, additional compensation each month conditional upon qualifying in pistol or revolver shooting in accordance with rules adopted by the chief of police. Upon certification by the chief of police to the city treasurer that any such member has qualified as indicated in the schedule below, the member shall be entitled to receive the additional compensation set forth in this section:
1. Marksman: Qualification is two hundred thirty points out of a possible three hundred points, two dollars per month.
2. Sharpshooter: Qualification is two hundred fifty points out of a possible three hundred points, four dollars per month.
3. Distinguished expert: Qualification is one thousand seven hundred ten points out of a possible one thousand eight hundred points in any six-month period, sixteen dollars per month.
B. Such additional compensation shall be for a period of one calendar month, next following the date of qualification, and shall then cease; provided, that a member shall be allowed to requalify and receive additional compensation from month to month. No member shall at any time receive additional compensation for more than one grade. (Ord. 117 § 1, 1953)
