2.95.010 Duties and responsibilities – Communications Director.

The Communications Department shall be under the direct supervision of the Communications Director and shall be organized into the divisions as provided in this chapter. (Ord. 1285 § 11, 2-19-74. Formerly § 2-68).

2.95.020 Administrative division.

The administrative division shall be under the immediate supervision of the Communications Director who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of the division shall be those assigned by the City Manager and shall include the following:

(a) To conduct studies, prepare reports and plans and work with architects, engineers and departments in planning City's future needs of all types of electronic communications and systems.

(b) To plan, organize and coordinate the radio, telephone, teletype and related systems and electronic facilities of the City.

(c) To supervise all contractual telephone and communications maintenance services and direct the operations of other divisions of the Communications Department.

(d) To represent the City on all communications matters before the Federal Communications Commission and other regulatory agencies.

(e) To do other work as required or related to communications or electronic systems and prepare an emergency operations plan in the event of disaster.

(f) To monitor and advise on matters pertaining to cable television. (Ord. 1285 § 11, 2-19-74. Formerly § 2-68.1).

2.95.030 Dispatching division.

The dispatching division of the Communications Department shall be under the immediate supervision of a chief communications dispatcher who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:

(a) Receive information, evaluate and dispatch emergency police, fire, and service units in response to requests for assistance by the public.

(b) Maintain records of such requests and actions taken.

(c) Act as coordination point for emergency situations.

(d) Monitor the municipal fire alarm and private alarm systems.

(e) Operate all radio and communications systems and perform other related work as required. (Ord. 1285 § 11, 2-19-74. Formerly § 2-68.2).

2.95.040 Technical maintenance division.

The technical maintenance division shall be under the immediate supervision of a chief communications technician who shall be in the unclassified service. The duties and responsibilities of this division shall be as follows:

(a) Install, modify and maintain City's radio, alarm, video communications equipment and other electronic systems.

(b) Maintain municipal fire alarm system. (Ord. 1285 § 11, 2-19-74. Formerly § 2-68.3).
