Article 2. Recreation and Parks Commission*

2-2.201 Recreation and Parks Commission created.

There is hereby created a Recreation and Parks Commission consisting of seven (7) members who shall be appointed by the Council.

2-2.202 Terms of office.

Members of the Recreation and Parks Commission shall serve for a term of four (4) years and until their respective successors are appointed and qualified.

2-2.203 Vacancies.

Vacancies occurring on the Recreation and Parks Commission otherwise than by expiration of term of office shall be filled by the Council.

2-2.204 Organization.

Within fifteen (15) days after their appointment the members of the Recreation and Parks Commission shall meet in regular session and elect from the members a Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The members shall also appoint a Secretary who need not be a member of the Commission and who may be the Director of Recreation. Their duties shall respectively be such as are usually carried by such officers. Officers shall hold office for one year or until successors are elected.

2-2.205 Meetings.

The Recreation and Parks Commission shall adopt rules and regulations to govern procedure, shall by vote set a time for regular meetings, which will be held at least once each month, and shall determine the manner in which special meetings may be held and notice given. A majority of the regular members shall constitute a quorum. Absence from three (3) consecutive regular meetings without formal consent of the Commission shall be deemed to constitute the retirement of such member, and the position shall be declared vacant.

2-2.206 Minutes.

Minutes of the Recreation and Parks Commission shall be filed with the City Clerk.

2-2.207 Powers and duties.

The powers and duties of the Recreation and Parks Commission shall be those specified in Section 912 of the Charter of the City.
