2.36.010 Office created.

The office of recreation director is created. The director shall be appointed and supervised by the city manager as set forth in Section 2.12.060(B)(2). (Ord. 01-10 § 8 (part): prior code § 2.155)

2.36.020 Powers and duties.

The recreation director shall:

A.    Coordinate recreation staff in the development and implementation of community recreation program;

B.    Supervise classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs;

C.    Select, plan and implement cultural arts, physical activities and special interest activities;

D.    Prepare for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs;

E.    Coordinate sports programs, registers children for teams, collects fees, acquires coaches, assigns practice times, distributes and collects uniforms;

F.    Schedule games and umpires for basketball, softball and other league sports;

G.    Schedule and runs various tournaments throughout the year, such as basketball tournaments, men’s slow pitch, tennis and coed volleyball;

H.    Provide professional advice to staff, presentations to supervisors, city council, boards, commissions, civic groups and general public;

I.    Assure that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities, monitors revenue and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget, assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time. Order all new and replacement equipment;

J.    Coordinate the recreation program with the parks program, other city departments, and outside organizations such as the school district and various community-based organizations;

K.    Prepare reports and maintain necessary operating records;

L.    Receive the public and answers questions; respond to inquiries from employees, citizens and others;

M.    Procure department materials and supplies;

N.    Schedule use of parks and community buildings;

O.    Perform such other functions as the city council, parks and recreation commission or city manager may from time to time specify. (Ord. 01-10 § 8 (part): prior code § 2.156)
