Every vendor of gasoline in quantities of 250 gallons or less shall keep all gasoline by him/her hereafter kept for sale in a red can, tank, barrel, or other receptacle which shall be labeled “Gasoline.” Vendors of kerosene in quantities of 250 gallons or less shall not put kerosene in any red barrel, tank, or other receptacle. All vendors of gasoline who shall at any time have more than 250 gallons of gasoline on hand shall keep the same in an underground tank of design approved by the Chief of the Fire Department and buried with the top not less than three feet under the ground. The storage permitted shall be unlimited if not closer than 100 feet to buildings; 20,000 gallons if not closer than 50 feet; 5,000 gallons if not closer than 20 feet; 1,000 gallons if not closer than 10 feet; 500 gallons if not closer than three feet; provided, that 500-gallon storage tanks may be located closer to or under any building if encased in six inches of concrete. Any person convicted of violating any of the provisions of this section shall be fined not less than $5.00 nor more than $25.00, and every day that such storage tank is maintained in violation of this section after notification by the Chief of the Fire Department shall be deemed a separate offense. 8.40.020 Inflammable liquids – Fire prohibited – Penalties.
It shall be unlawful for any person to strike a match or have any open flame within 25 feet of any place where gasoline or other liquid giving off explosive vapors is being dispensed in open containers. Any person convicted of violating this section shall be fined not less than $5.00 nor more than $50.00. (Ord. 2267 § 20; R.O. 1926, No. 183. Code 1990 § 9-802)
