2.36.010  Creation.

There is created an organization of police officers in the city to be known as "The City of Cottage Grove Police Reserve," to be composed of voluntary membership of not to exceed a number as established by the chief of police, and who shall be under the jurisdiction and subject to duty on call of the chief of police of the city.  (Ord. 2469 §1, 1982)

2.36.020 Membership.

A.  Membership in the police reserve shall be for an indefinite term.

B.  Such membership may be revoked at any time by the chief of police for the good of the city, or may be terminated at any time by a member upon written notification to the chief of police.

C.  Members shall not be less than twenty-one years of age nor more than sixty years of age.

D.  Their appointment will be approved and confirmed by the chief of police and each member must take an oath of office.  (Ord. 2469 §2, 1982)

2.36.030  Duties.

A.  Except when on duty by call of the chief of police or other authorized members of the police department, the members of the city police reserve shall perform no police functions other than those granted to all citizens of the state by the law thereof.

B.  Members of the city police reserve shall, at all times, be subject to call and the performance of such police duties as may be assigned to them, and shall report for duty at such intervals and times that shall be fixed or determined by order of the chief of police.  (Ord. 2469 §§3, 4, 1982)

2.36.040 Subject to orders of chief of police--Violations of rules and regulations of police department--Penalty.

A.  Members of the organization shall be subject to the orders of and shall be directly responsible to the chief of police and under his jurisdiction and that of other officers of the police department.

B.  Members found guilty of violations of the rules and regulations of the department or who have been convicted of a Class A misdemeanor or felony, or who for any reason shall be regarded by the chief of police as unsatisfactory as a member of the reserve program, may be dismissed by the chief of police.  (Ord. 2469 §5, 1982)

2.36.050 Membership by city official to police reserve prohibited.

No official of the city, whether appointed or elected, may be a member of the city police reserve.  (Ord. 2469 §6, 1982)

2.36.060 Membership termination--Property.

Upon termination of membership in the reserve, for whatever reason, all property of the city in the possession of the departing member shall be surrendered and delivered to such official as the chief of police shall designate.  (Ord. 2469 §7, 1982)

2.36.070 Compensation.

Members of the city police reserve shall not be compensated except as provided by regulations developed by the police chief and city manager.  (Ord. 2633 §2, 1989)

2.36.080 Policy for member’s step level.

When serving on active duty as a reserve police officer, members shall be entitled and subject to all duties, regulations, responsibilities and limitations as described in policy for their step level.  (Ord. 2469 §9, 1982)
