6.16.010 Keeping of rabbits permitted.

Subject to the provisions below it shall not be unlawful to keep rabbits, as pets only, in the city of Culver. [Ord. 23-03 § 1 (Exh. A), 2023.]

6.16.020 Limitation on number of rabbits kept.

A. No occupant of any lot in the city shall keep or permit to be kept within the lot area more than two rabbits, unless such occupant or another occupant of the same lot unit has obtained and has in effect a license under the provisions of this chapter authorizing the keeping of more than two rabbits.

B. No occupant of any lot in the city for which a license authorizing the keeping of more than two rabbits has been issued under the provisions of this chapter shall keep or permit to be kept upon such lot any rabbit or rabbits in excess of the number authorized by such license.

C. No license issued under the provisions of this chapter shall authorize the keeping of more than six rabbits within any lot area. [Ord. 23-03 § 1 (Exh. A), 2023.]

6.16.030 Three or more rabbits – License required.

A. Any person residing in the city of Culver desiring to keep upon the premises upon which such person resides three or more rabbits may apply for a license pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.

B. A license issued under this chapter may authorize the keeping by the person named in the license, and members of the immediate family of such person, upon the premises stated in the license, of the number of rabbits stated in the license as family pets.

C. The keeping of rabbits for commercial purposes in residential zones is prohibited. Any license issued under this chapter does not authorize the keeping of rabbits for commercial purposes.

D. Application for such license shall be made to the city clerk upon forms provided by the city and accompanied by payment of a license fee as determined by city council. Such application shall contain such information as the city clerk may require for purposes of enforcement of the provisions of this chapter, including at least the following:

1. The name and address of the applicant;

2. A description of the rabbits proposed to be kept and the number thereof;

3. A statement of the number of rabbits, if any, kept at the same premises by any other person, and the name of such person;

4. The holder of a license issued pursuant to the provisions of this chapter may make application for an amended license as desired number of rabbits changes. [Ord. 23-03 § 1 (Exh. A), 2023.]

6.16.040 Limitation on keeping rabbits.

A. Owners of pet rabbits shall not permit their pet rabbits from being at large off the owner’s property.

B. No owner of a pet rabbit shall permit such animal to go unconfined on the premises of the owner or keeper.

C. At-large rabbits may be kept by anyone and after 48 hours, if not claimed by the owner, may be humanely destroyed. [Ord. 23-03 § 1 (Exh. A), 2023.]

6.16.050 Cancellation, suspension or revocation of license.

A. Any license issued under the provisions of this chapter for the keeping of rabbits shall be subject to cancellation, suspension and revocation upon the violation of any condition of the license or this chapter;

B. The keeping of rabbits in such manner as to create a nuisance; or

C. The licensee causing or allowing mistreatment of rabbits. [Ord. 23-03 § 1 (Exh. A), 2023.]
