530.01 Establishment of weight limits.
There is hereby established a weight limit for certain bridges and streets located within the City of Meadville as is fully set forth upon Schedule N to this article.

530.02 Signing.
Appropriate signs shall be posted by the streets department notifying travelers of the existence and nature of all weight limitations established pursuant to the terms of this article. (Ord. 3610 § 2, 2004)
530.03 Prohibition of violation of established weight limits.
Except pursuant to a permit issued in accord with MMC 530.04, no person or entity shall cause or permit the operation of any vehicle, conveyance, or device upon, on, or over any bridge or street if the actual weight of the subject vehicle, conveyance or device is in excess of the weight limitation hereby established for such bridge or street. 530.04 Special circumstance permits.
The city engineer of the City of Meadville may issue permits to qualified applicants to cause vehicles, conveyances or devices with weights in excess of the limitations hereby established to traverse any bridge or street regulated hereby if:
(A) The city engineer determines that the subject vehicle, conveyance or device cannot reasonably travel to its intended destination by any reasonably available alternative and lawful route; and
(B) The city engineer determines that operation of the subject vehicle, conveyance or device over the subject bridge or street cannot be reasonably anticipated to damage the surface or structure of the subject bridge or street; and
(C) The applicant for the permit posts a bond in favor of the City of Meadville either in cash or with one or more corporate sureties acceptable to the City of Meadville in such amount as the city engineer of the City of Meadville may determine to be required to secure the repair of any and all damage of the subject bridge or street should such damage occur as the result of the operation of the subject vehicle, conveyance or device over the subject bridge or street. 530.99 Penalty.
Any person or entity who shall act in violation of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a fine not less than $150.00 for each 500 pounds (or part thereof) in excess of 3,000 pounds by which the actual gross vehicle weight of any offending vehicle exceeds the posted weight limit for the subject bridge. Each and every transit of a weight-limited bridge by an overweight vehicle shall constitute a separate offense. (Ord. 3610 § 2, 2004)
