OFFENSES BY OR AGAINST PUBLIC OFFICERS AND GOVERNMENT

9.04.010 Communication with prisoners.

A.    It is illegal for any person to loiter within two hundred feet of the exterior walls of the county jails.

B.    It is illegal for any person to converse with a prisoner held in the county jail except in the facilities provided by the sheriff.

C.    It is illegal for any person to accept or deliver a written message, note or letter to or from a prisoner held in the county jail unless such written communication shall have been sent or received through the mail or inspected by a representative of the sheriff’s department.

D.    Violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor.

E.    The sheriff shall place signs inside and outside the county jail which shall set forth, in summary form, the conduct prohibited by this section. (Res. dated 8/14/78)

9.04.020 Vandalizing road signs.

A.    The county commissioners are authorized to pay two hundred fifty dollars reward to any individual, who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person who shall alter, deface, device, damage, knock down or remove any official road or traffic control sign.

B.    Before any individual is entitled to the above mentioned reward that person must show to the satisfaction of the county commissioners that his or her information led to the arrest and conviction for said vandalism, and further the individual claiming the reward must provide to the county commissioners a copy of the record of the conviction of the violation. 9.04.030 Protection of dogs used by the sheriff’s department.

It is a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than ninety days, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or both, for any person to wilfully tease, torment, strike, kick, mutilate, disable or otherwise injure, or kill, or to interfere or meddle with any dog while it is being used by the county sheriff’s department, or any deputy, or employee, in the performance of any function or duty of the department, deputy, or employee.
