ULTRALIGHTS

8.36.010 Ultralight defined.
“Ultralight” means a vehicle that is used or intended to be used for manned operation in the air and has one or both of the following characteristics:
A. Weighs less than 254 pounds empty weight, excluding floats and safety devices which are intended for deployment in a potentially catastrophic situation;
B. Is not capable of more than 55 knots calibrated air speed at full power in level flight. (Ord. 3837 § 1, 1982.)
8.36.020 Lighter-than-air defined.
“Lighter-than-air” aircraft means an aircraft that can rise and remain suspended by using contained gas weighing less than the air that is displaced by the gas. (Ord. 3837 § 2, 1982.)
8.36.030 Prohibited acts.
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate ultralight aircraft at Auburn Municipal Airport, to include takeoffs, landings or flight in or through established traffic patterns for Auburn Municipal Airport. Lighter-than-air aircraft licensed by the FAA may be permitted to operate from the airport under the following conditions:
A. Operations shall be restricted to launches before 8:00 a.m. or other hours approved by airport staff.
B. Airport landings shall be prohibited except when required for the safe operation of the aircraft. (Ord. 5287 § 1, 1999; Ord. 3837 § 3, 1982.)
