Article I. Speed Limits
10.05.010 Definitions.
The following terms used in this chapter shall have the meanings herein set out:
(1) "Public highway" includes every way, lane, road, street, boulevard, and every way or place in the town open as a matter of right to public vehicular travel inside the limits of the town of Cathlamet.
(2) "Vehicle" includes every device capable of being moved upon any public highway and in, upon, or by which any persons or property are or may be transported or drawn upon a public highway, excepting devices moved by human or animal power. (Ord. 241 § 1, 1967)
10.05.020 Speed.
No person shall operate a vehicle on any public highway within the town of Cathlamet, Washington, at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing, and in no event in excess of 25 miles per hour, except on Primary State Highway No. 12 where the same is within the corporate limits of said town and thereon in no event in excess of 50 miles per hour. In every event speed shall be so controlled as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person, vehicle or other conveyance on or entering any public highway in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care. 10.05.030 Special hazards.
The driver of every vehicle shall, consistent with the requirements of CMC 10.05.020 drive at an appropriate reduced speed when approaching and crossing an intersection, when approaching or going around a curve, when approaching a hill crest, when travelling upon any narrow or winding roadway, and when special hazards exist with respect to pedestrians or other traffic, or by reason of weather or road conditions. 10.05.040 Violation – Penalty.
Any person violating the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not less than $5.00 nor more than $100.00, or by imprisonment in the town jail for not less than one day nor more than 30 days, or by both fine and imprisonment. Article II. Speed Limits on Certain Streets
10.05.050 Speed limit established – Irving Alley.
No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the following described public alley in excess of 15 miles per hour, when signs are erected giving notice thereof: that certain alley located between and dividing Lots 2 and 7 from Lots 1 and 8 of Jacobsen Tracts in Section 12, Township 8 North, Range 6 West of the Willamette Meridian, in the town of Cathlamet, Washington, commonly known as Irving Alley. 10.05.060 Violation – Penalty.
Any person who shall violate the terms of CMC 10.05.050 shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in an amount not exceeding $250.00. (Ord. 286 § 2, 1979)
