2.26.010  Ratification of regular fire department.

The regular, full-time Centralia fire department, as it now exists, is ratified and confirmed in all respects and for all intents and purposes. (Ord. 1510 § 1, 1982).

2.26.020  Volunteer firemen—Use authorized.

In addition thereto, the city of Centralia establishes and authorizes the use of volunteer firemen to assist in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the Centralia fire department as same are now constituted or may hereafter be designated. (Ord. 1510 § 2, 1982).

2.26.030  Volunteer fireman defined.

For purposes of this chapter a "volunteer fireman" includes any fireman who is a member of the Centralia fire department (volunteer division), as herein established, but shall not include full-time firefighters. (Ord. 1510 § 3, 1982).

2.26.040  Volunteer division created—Terms, conditions and compensation.

There is created within the Centralia fire department a volunteer division which is to be utilized upon the terms and conditions established by the Centralia city council, and the personnel thereof to perform such duties as hereinafter described, and to be compensated in such a manner as established by the city council. (Ord. 1848 § 11, 1995: Ord. 1510 § 4, 1982).

2.26.050  Membership—Purpose of division.

All volunteer firemen shall be deemed members of the volunteer division, the purpose of which division shall be to assist in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the Centralia fire department in such a manner as the Centralia fire chief, with the approval of the city council, shall direct. (Ord. 1848 § 12, 1995: Ord. 1510 § 5, 1982).

2.26.060  Standards for volunteer firemen.

All volunteer firemen shall meet certain minimum standards including but not limited to completion of an appropriate probationary period, as established by the Centralia fire chief with the approval of the Centralia city council. (Ord. 1848 § 13, 1995: Ord. 1510 § 6, 1982).

2.26.070  Appointment conditions.

Persons meeting such standards may be appointed as volunteer firemen by the chief of the Centralia fire department, with the concurrence of the mayor of Centralia. Such persons so appointed shall serve at the pleasure of the fire chief and such appointment may be terminated at any time for any reason deemed appropriate by him with the concurrence of the mayor of Centralia. 2.26.080  Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act—Incorporated by reference—Eligibility.

Such volunteer firemen shall be eligible for participation in the Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act, Chapter 41.24 RCW, as now enacted or hereafter amended, upon the terms, conditions and provisions thereof, same being incorporated herein by this reference. (Ord. 1510 § 8, 1982).

2.26.090  Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act—City duties and responsibilities.

The limitations, duties and responsibilities of the city of Centralia pursuant to the said Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act, Chapter 41.24 RCW, are established the same as if fully set forth in this chapter, including but not limited to the establishment of a board of trustees pursuant to RCW 41.24.060. (Ord. 1510 § 9, 1982).

2.26.100  Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act—Copies on file.

The city clerk shall maintain on file in her office and as part of the public records of the city at least three copies of the Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act, Chapter 41.24 RCW, which is adopted in this chapter by reference. (Ord. 1510 § 10, 1982).
