1.108.010 Name change.

The name of the Chelan County building department is changed to the Chelan County building and fire safety department. (Res. 80-88 § 1, 7/8/80).

1.108.020 Organization and staffing.

The department shall be headed by a director responsible to the board of county commissioners. The department shall have two divisions, namely the building division and the fire safety division. The building division shall be headed by a supervisor and the fire safety division by a fire marshal. Additional personnel staffing and organization shall be as necessary to properly administer state requirements. (Res. 80-88 § 2, 7/8/80).

1.108.030 Responsibilities.

(a)  The building and fire safety department shall be headed with a director who will assume full responsibility for the operation of both the building and fire safety divisions and report directly to the commissioners.

(b)  The secretary is a shared position and reports as directed to both the planning and building and fire safety departments.

(c)  The building division supervisor will be filled by the building and fire safety director and will be responsible for plans checks and approval or issuance of building permits, and inspections.

(d)  The fire safety division will be filled by the fire marshal, who shall, with the exception of risk management, be responsible to the building and fire safety director and shall be responsible for fire inspections (maintenance), fire investigation, arson investigation, education, and other duties associated with fire safety.

(e)  Building inspection and fire inspection may at times become joint personnel usage and fill in each others’ positions. This will be determined based on work load within divisions and urgency of response.

(f)  Coordination will be effected specifically between the fire marshal and the chief, Fire District No. 1 and between the chiefs of all other fire districts within the county as required. (Res. 80-88 (part), 7/8/80).
