14.16.020 Addressing system.

The addressing system shall be used for public roadways. The address of a lot is determined by the roadway from which primary vehicular access is taken. Addressing will generally be assigned using intervals of four (4). Larger or smaller numbers may be assigned to acreage parcels, infill parcels and flag lots. Should flag lots, infill lots, or accessory dwelling units be created with primary access narrower than the twenty-five (25) foot addressing grid, the intervening numbers (i.e., 02, 03) shall be assigned.

(1)    Avenues.

(a)    In the northeast and northwest quadrants, new avenue addresses shall be assigned starting with 00 at the first lot north of the block line on the west side of the avenue. For example, traveling north along Andresen Avenue from the extension of First Street baseline, addressing on the west side should be 00, 04, 08 NE Andresen Avenue. At the first lot north of the Second Street block line, addressing on the west side of the road shall then become 100, 104, 108 NE Andresen Avenue. On the east side of the street traveling north, the addressing sequence for the same street segments shall be 01, 05, 09 NE Andresen Avenue until reaching the Second Street block line at which it becomes 101, 105, 109 NE Andresen Avenue.

(b)    In the southeast and southwest quadrants, new avenue addresses shall be assigned starting with 00 at the first lot south of the block line on the west side of the avenue. For example, traveling south along Andresen Avenue from the extension of First Street baseline, addressing on the west side should be 00, 04, 08 SE Andresen Avenue. At the first lot south of the Second Street block line, addressing on the west side of the road will then become 100, 104, 108 SE Andresen Avenue. On the east side of the street traveling south, the addressing sequence for the same street segments will be 01, 05, 09 SE Andresen Avenue until reaching the Second Street block line at which it becomes 101, 105, 109 SE Andresen Avenue.

(2)    Streets. The address of a lot shall be determined by the roadway from which primary vehicular access is taken.

(a)    In the northwest and southwest quadrants, new street addresses shall be assigned starting with 00 at the first lot west of the block line. Numbering then proceeds in increments of four (4) until arriving at the next block line. For example, traveling west along 78th Street from the extension of Division Street baseline, addressing should be 00, 04, 08 NW 78th Street on the north side of the street until hitting the next block line at the extension of First Avenue. At the first lot west of the First Avenue block line, addressing on the north side of the street then becomes 100, 104, 108 NW 78th Street. On the south side of the street traveling west, the addressing sequence for the same street segments will be 01, 05, 09 NW 78th Street until reaching the First Avenue block line at which it will become 101, 105, 109 NW 78th Street.

(b)    In the northeast and southeast quadrants, new street addresses shall be assigned starting with 00 at the first lot east of the block line. Numbering then proceeds in increments of four (4) until arriving at the next block line. For example, traveling east along 78th Street from the extension of Division Street baseline, addressing on the north side of the road will be 00, 04, 08 NE 78th Street until hitting the next block line at the extension of First Avenue. At the first lot east of the First Avenue block line, addressing on the north side of the street becomes 100, 104, 108 NE 78th Street. On the south side of the street traveling east, the addressing sequence for the same street segments shall be 01, 05, 09 NE 78th Street until reaching the First Avenue block line at which it becomes 101, 105, 109 NE 78th Street.

(3)    Drives and Roads. In cases where roads are diagonal to the grid and meander, address direction shall be based on the road’s general diagonal orientation.

(a)    In the northwest and northeast quadrants, addressing shall begin on the southernmost end and progress northward. New drive and road addresses shall be assigned starting with 00 at the first lot north/west of the Division Street baseline. For example, traveling northwest along Hillhurst Road in the northwest quadrant from the extension of 229th Street baseline, addressing on the southwest side should be 22900, 22904, 22908 NW Hillhurst Road. On the northeast side of the street traveling north, the addressing sequence for the same street segments will be 22901, 22905, 22909 NW Hillhurst Road.

(b)    Traveling northeast along Ward Road in the northeast quadrant, numbering on the northwest side of the street starting at the first lot north of the 76th Street block would be 7600, 7604, 7608 until you reach the 77th Street block at which the sequence will change to 7700, 7704, 7708 NE Ward Road. On the southeast side of the street traveling north, the addressing sequence for the same street segments will be 7601, 7605, 7609 until reaching the 77th Street block line at which it becomes 7701, 7705, 7709 NE Ward Road.

(c)    There are no diagonal roads in the southwest and southeast unincorporated area quadrants.

(d)    Once diagonal drives and roads curve and take on an alignment of an avenue or street, the road name should change to an avenue or street and be addressed pursuant to subsections (1) and (2) of this section.

(4)    Places, Courts, Ways, Circles and Loops.

(a)    Places and courts shall be addressed in the same manner as avenues in subsection (1) of this section.

(b)    Ways and circles shall be addressed in the same manner as streets in subsection (2) of this section.

(c)    Loops shall be numbered in a clockwise direction starting at the point of access into the loop. Addresses will be assigned in intervals of four (4) starting with 04 on the first lot on the most westerly or southerly external side of the loop and with 01 on the internal side of the loop.
