13.16.010 Numbering system established.

The decimal system of numbering is adopted for the numbering of buildings and houses within the city. One hundred numbers are assigned to each block, and 20 feet to each number, but in cases where lots or blocks are irregularly platted the numbers shall be assigned in such manner as will under all the circumstances be mostly nearly in conformity with the system hereby adopted. 13.16.020 Base lines established.

Boulevard Street is adopted as the initial or base line for the numbering of all buildings and houses on streets running approximately east and west, and a line parallel to and three blocks north of Fair Street is adopted as the initial or base line for the numbering of all buildings and houses on streets running approximately north and south in the city. 13.16.030 Numbering northern streets.

The numbering on all streets extending northerly from a line parallel to and three blocks north of Fair Street shall begin at said line with number “1” and continue with the even numbers on the west side and odd numbers on the east side of the street or avenue. [Ord. 118 § 4, 1913.]

13.16.050 Records of building numbers.

The city engineer shall at once prepare and place of record in his office a plat showing the numbers assigned in accordance with this chapter to each house, building or tract of land within the city limits. Such maps shall make a permanent record of the city engineer’s office and be kept for the inspection and use of the public, and it shall be the duty of the city engineer to advise persons who inquire of the numbers assigned to any particular home, building, lot or parcel of land as to which information is sought, and he shall issue to persons demanding the same, without charge, a certificate showing the number assigned to such house, building, lot or parcel of land. 13.16.060 Building or house numbers.

Building or house numbers, to be used in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, shall be obtained by the owners or occupants of the property at their own expense. Such numbers shall be neat and legible character, and of such size as will enable persons of ordinary eyesight to easily read the same from the street line in front of the house or building upon which such numbers are placed. Such numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous position upon such house or building over or to the side of the front entrance. [Ord. 118 § 6, 1913.]

13.16.070 Owner’s responsibility.

All houses and buildings within the city of Clarkston shall be numbered by the owners or occupants thereof, in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. [Ord. 118 § 7, 1913.]

13.16.080 Penalty for violations.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor. [Ord. 942 § 1, 1983; Ord. 118 § 8, 1913.]
