2.79.010 City holidays.

The following days are established as “city holidays”: the first day of January; the third Monday in February; the last Monday in May; the fourth day of July; the first Monday in September; the eleventh day of November; the fourth Thursday in November; the Friday following the fourth Thursday in November; and the twenty-fifth day of December.

Whenever any city holiday falls upon a Sunday, the following Monday shall be the city holiday, and whenever a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be the city holiday. (Ord. 2552 § 1, 1994; Ord. 1793 § 1, 1976; Ord. 1694 § 1, 1974).

2.79.020 Special day off.

Each full-time employee (except certain firemen, as hereinafter designated, and except all police employees) shall enjoy, as a special day off, one holiday per calendar year in addition to those specified in LMC 2.79.010. Each such full-time employee may select the day upon which he or she desires to take the additional holiday provided for in this section after consultation with such employee’s supervisor and approval of such supervisor as to the day selected. 2.79.030 Holidays for certain firemen and all police employees.

(1) All full-time fire employees, working under the three-platoon duty tour system, shall have in lieu of holidays designated in LMC 2.79.010 and 2.79.020, including the special day off as set forth in LMC 2.79.020, compensatory time off in the amount of three shifts per year. The compensatory time shall be taken in the calendar year following that in which it is earned and may be taken in conjunction with the employee’s normal vacation, subject to approval of the fire chief.

(2) Holidays, including the special day off set forth above, for all police employees shall be taken as compensatory time and shall be scheduled and taken at a time approved by the chief of police, who shall give due regard for both the employee and the need of the department. 2.79.040 Exclusive holidays.

The foregoing holidays, including the “special day off,” shall be in lieu of all other holidays designated either by state or federal law or otherwise, except Sunday shall be a nonbusiness day. (Ord. 1694 § 1, 1974).
