2.12.010 Office of the police chief established.

The city council establishes the appointive office of police chief. Subject to confirmation by the city council, the mayor appoints the police chief. The police chief reports to and serves under the direction of the mayor.

2.12.020 Job description and qualifications.

The job description and qualifications for the appointive office of police chief shall be approved and changed from time to time by a separate ordinance or resolution of the city council.

2.12.030 Duties.

The police chief may exercise all the powers and duties vested by state statute and shall exercise all duties described in any job description adopted pursuant to Section 2.12.020.

2.12.040 Salary.

The annual budget adopted by the city council must provide for the salary for the office of police chief.

2.12.050 Oath required.

Before performing the duties of the office, the police chief must take an oath for the faithful performance of his or her official duties.
