A.    The following state statutes are adopted by reference as and for a portion of the animal control ordinance of this city as if set forth in full in this section:

B.    The amendment, addition or repeal by the Washington Legislature of any section of any adopted statutes shall be deemed to amend this chapter, and the statutes contained in this chapter which are adopted by reference in conformity with the amendment, addition or repeal, and it shall not be necessary for the legislative authority of this city to take any action with respect to such addition, amendment or repeal as provided by RCW 35A.12.140.

C.    The city and/or shelter contracted by the city will keep unlicensed stray dogs and cats for a period of at least seventy-two hours from the time of delivery. Dogs and cats bearing a current license issued within the state of Washington, or positively identified by Mukilteo animal control personnel shall be held for a period of seventy-two hours from time of notice to the owner, or, if the owners cannot be identified, said licensed or identified dogs and cats shall be held for a period of ten days. Animals held under authority of RCW 16.52.085 will be held for fifteen business days before any disposition of the animal. (Ord. 1154 § 1 (part), 2006; Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)

6.24.020 Abandoning an animal.

It shall be unlawful for any person to place an animal under circumstances which manifest a willful intent to abandon it, or to abandon an animal by leaving it on the street, road, or highway or in any public place or on private property without the private property owner’s permission. 6.24.030 Penalty.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor subject to the provisions contained in Section 1.32.010(B), General penalties. (Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)
