2.08.010 Authorization to appoint.

The mayor, or the mayor’s designee, may appoint a city planning commission, or commissioners, and other advisory citizens’ committees, commissions and boards advisory to the city council, the airport development and operating committee, building code advisory committee, building code board of appeals, civil service commission, interpretive center operating committee, library board of trustees, lodging tax advisory committee, park board, public works advisory committee, and board of directors of the city radio station. Such appointments shall be confirmed by a majority of the whole city council. (Ord. 840 § 1, 2008: Ord. 90 § 1, 1973)

2.08.020 Mayor—Duties generally.

A.    The mayor shall be the chief executive and administrative officer of the city, in charge of all departments and employees, with authority to designate assistants and department heads.

B.    The mayor shall have the duties and responsibilities set forth in Chapter 35A.12 RCW.

C.    The mayor shall preside at meetings of the city council, shall report to the council concerning the affairs of the city, its financial and other needs, and shall make recommendations for council consideration and action.

D.    The mayor shall be the official and ceremonial head of the city and shall represent the city on ceremonial occasions, except that when illness or other duties prevent the mayor’s attendance at an official function and no mayor pro tempore has been appointed by the council, a member of the council or some other suitable person may be designated by the mayor to represent the city on such occasion.

2.08.030 Mayor’s compensation.

The mayor’s salary beginning January 1, 2023, shall be sixty-five thousand dollars annually. Mayors elected or appointed to serve a mayoral term commencing on or after January 1, 2024, shall, upon taking the oath of office, be compensated for services rendered to the city at the rate of sixty-five thousand dollars per year. In the event that administration hires a public works director or a city engineer the salary of the mayor will decrease to twelve thousand dollars at the end of the mayoral term. 2.08.040 Reimbursement for expenses.

The mayor shall receive reimbursement for the actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of duties of the office of mayor upon presentation of claim and approval thereto by the city council. (Ord. 846 § 2, 2008)

2.08.050 Blanket amendment.*

All Ocean Shores Municipal Code designations of “city manager” or any variations thereon shall be deemed to have been amended to read “mayor.” (Ord. 877 § 1, 2010)
