15.24.010 Adoption.

The National Electrical Code, current edition, as published by the National Fire Protection Association, together with amendments thereof and additions thereto, is adopted by reference as the electrical code of the city. The provisions of this code shall regulate the installation, alteration, or repair of electrical wiring and service equipment in the city. (Ord. 803 § 9 (part), 2006)

15.24.020 Wiring methods and materials.

The following provisions shall regulate the use and installation of electrical materials, devices, appliances and equipment in the city:

A.    Field installed aluminum conductors of electricity are authorized only in the commercial zone dedicated for the Tesla Charging Station located at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.

B.    Field installed aluminum conductors of electricity are prohibited. Only copper conductors are authorized. Exceptions shall be permitted only if the Grays Harbor PUD supplies, installs and maintains any nonconforming conductor.

C.    Concrete-encased electrode shall be used as the primary grounding system if available. An electrode diameter of at least two inches (fifty millimeters) of concrete, located within and near the bottom of a concrete foundation or footing that is in direct contact with the earth, consisting of at least twenty feet (six meters) of one or more bare or zinc galvanized or other steel reinforcing bars or rods of not less than one-half-inch (thirteen millimeter) diameter, or consisting of at least twenty feet (six meters) of bare copper conductor not smaller than No. 4 AWG. Reinforcing bars shall be permitted to be bonded together by steel tie wires or other effective means.

D.    A secondary grounding system shall consist of two grounding rods five-eighths-inch by eight feet minimum installed six feet minimum apart supplemented by minimum No. 2 bare copper conductor twenty feet in length buried a minimum two feet in the earth.

E.    All exterior conduit, fittings and boxes are to be polyvinyl chloride (PVC), unless steel is required for strength.

15.24.030 Violation—Penalties.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this code shall be deemed guilty of a Class A offense as defined in Title 7 of this code. Each day the violation continues shall be a separate offense. (Ord. 822 § 1 (part), 2007; Ord. 803 § 9 (part), 2006. Formerly 15.24.020)
