8.16.010 Interference and abuse of police dogs prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to willfully or maliciously interfere, obstruct, torture, beat, kick, strike, mutilate, injure, disable, shoot, kill or in any way abuse or harass any dog used by any police officer in discharging or attempting to discharge any legal duty or power of his office. (Ord. 2463 § 1, 1995; Ord. 1932 § 1, 1982).

8.16.020 Police dogs exempted from animal control provisions.

All police dogs and all dogs being trained as police dogs shall be exempt from all the provisions of Chapter 8.04 PMC relating to animal control only when performing in a work-related, active duty capacity. When in an off-duty capacity, all police dogs and dogs being trained as police dogs shall be subject to all the provisions of the PMC relating to animal control except Chapter 8.18 PMC, related to dangerous and potentially dangerous dogs. 8.16.030 Violation – Punishment.

Any violation of the provisions of this chapter shall be punishable as a gross misdemeanor and may be punished by a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year in jail, or by both such fine and imprisonment. (Ord. 2482 § 1, 1996; Ord. 2463 § 1, 1995; Ord. 1932 § 3, 1982).
