10.60.010 Effect of regulations.

(1) The parent of any child and the guardian of any ward shall not authorize or knowingly permit any such child or ward to violate any of the provisions of this chapter.

(2) These regulations applicable to bicycles shall apply whenever a bicycle is operated upon any street or upon any public path set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles, subject to those exceptions stated herein. (Ord. 1522 § 54, 1968).

10.60.110 Obedience to traffic-control devices.

(1) Any person operating a bicycle shall obey the instructions of official traffic-control signals, signs, and other control devices applicable to vehicles, unless otherwise directed by a police officer.

(2) Whenever authorized signs are erected indicating that no right or left or U turn is permitted, no person operating a bicycle shall disobey the direction of any such sign, except where such person dismounts from the bicycle to make any such turn, in which event, such person shall then obey the regulations applicable to pedestrians. 10.60.120 Parking.

No person shall park a bicycle upon a street other than upon the roadway against the curb or upon the sidewalk in a rack to support the bicycle or against a building or at the curb, in such manner as to afford the least obstruction to pedestrian traffic. (Ord. 1522 § 65, 1968).

10.60.130 Riding on sidewalks and public paths.

(1) No person shall operate a bicycle upon a sidewalk or public path in a manner that is both negligent and endangers or is likely to endanger any person or property.

(2) For purposes of this section, “negligent” means the failure to exercise ordinary care, and is the doing of some act that a reasonably careful person would not do under the same or similar circumstances or the failure to do something that a reasonably careful person would do under the same or similar circumstances. 10.60.140 Penalties.

A violation of any provision of this chapter shall be punishable as a civil infraction as defined in Chapter 1.02 PMC. The base penalty for a civil infraction issued for violating a section of this chapter shall be as follows:

(1) First violation: $50.00 plus statutory assessments; and

(2) Second and subsequent violations: $250.00 plus statutory assessments. (Ord. 3069 § 3, 2014).
