5.64.010 License – Requirements generally.
From and after the taking effect of the ordinance codified in this chapter, it is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to engage in the businesses or callings named in this chapter, within the city, without having first applied for and obtained a license therefor. (1958 code § 3.28.010)
5.64.020 License – Application and issuance.
Any person, firm or corporation desiring a license for any of the businesses specified in this chapter shall file their application with the city clerk/treasurer and accompany the same with the annual license as specified herein, and upon payment of such fee, the clerk/treasurer will issue a license for a period of one year from the date of the application. 5.64.030 Distributing posters or handbills – License required when – Fee.
Every person desiring to post or distribute posters, dodgers or handbills, or any printed or written advertising matter within the city shall apply to the city clerk/treasurer for a license therefor, and shall pay to the clerk/treasurer the sum of $5.00. The clerk/treasurer shall issue to the applicant a license which shall be good for the term of one year from and after the date thereof; provided, that this shall not apply to persons distributing or delivering regularly published newspapers or magazines, nor to anyone posting bills at their place of business in the city advertising their own property, or property that they may have or hold for sale. 5.64.040 Distributing posters or handbills – Restrictions.
It is unlawful for the holder of any such license mentioned in RMC 5.64.030, or any employee of such licensee, to affix any such advertising matter to any pole of any public service corporation in the city, or to the exterior of any motor vehicle, or to place such advertising material in or about any motor vehicle in the city, or to scatter the same in front yards or on porches where they can be blown by the wind, or to leave more than one of such bills at each residence or office, or to leave any of such handbills at any residence or building that is unoccupied. 5.64.050 Junk-collection vehicles – License fee.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation not having an established place of business in the city to operate any truck, cart or other vehicle for the purpose of gathering junk or old iron or scrap without procuring a license, which license is fixed at the sum of $25.00 per year for each vehicle so operated. 5.64.060 Moving picture shows – License required when.
Any person, firm or corporation desiring to operate or conduct any electric theater, moving picture show or like place of amusement where pictures are produced upon a curtain or screen shall pay an annual license fee of $75.00 on theaters having a seating capacity of 850 seats; provided, however, that this provision shall not apply to performances given for charitable or educational purposes, or such performances given in school auditoriums or like places. 5.64.070 Taxicabs – License fees.
Any person, firm or corporation operating a taxicab or for-hire automobile in the city shall pay an annual license fee of $20.00 per automobile, an annual license fee of $3.00 per driver or operator thereof, and an annual license fee of $25.00 per automobile for curb space especially reserved for such service. 5.64.080 Violation – Penalty.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the terms or provisions of this chapter shall be punished by a fine of not less than $1.00 or more than $100.00, or by imprisonment in the city jail for not to exceed 30 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. (1958 code § 3.28.100)
