1.0 PURPOSE:

Set standards for uniform treatment of donors to City programs and facilities.

2.0 ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED:

All departments, divisions and programs that receive gifts and donations from private individuals, groups, businesses and corporations.

3.0 REFERENCES:

4.0 POLICY:

Supporters of City of Renton programs and/or capital facilities will be publicly recognized for their gifts by a statement of thanks placed on the City's web site. Extent and duration of web site recognition will vary relative to size / importance of the support.

5.0 DEFINITIONS:

5.1    "Support" or "gift" or "donation" means contribution that is made without an obligation or expectation by the City, and is not reimbursed.

5.2    "Recognition" or "acknowledgment," for the purpose of this web site recognition policy, means visible posting on the City's web site of a statement of the City's appreciation, with or without graphic image(s) to accompany the narrative statement.

5.3    "Duration" means the length of time the statement of recognition remains posted on the web site.

6.0 PROCEDURES:

6.1    Supporters of City-operated/managed programs, events or facilities may receive narrative acknowledgment of their gifts on the City's web site, on or near the web site page where the program or event benefiting from the support is described. Both narrative text and accompanying visual image(s) must be prepared or approved by an official of the City program benefiting from the support, and his/her Division Director. In case of disagreements about the appropriateness of wording or visual image, decision-making authority lies with the City's Communications Director.

6.2    For gifts of $1,000 to $2,499 (or the equivalent in material goods, team uniforms, artworks, etc.), the recognition up to 25 words of text. The acknowledgment will not include a visual image, and will remain on the City's web site for the duration of the event or program benefited, but not longer than six months.

6.3    Gifts of $2,500 to $4,999 may receive a narrative acknowledgment up to 50 words, along with a logo or other approved visual image no larger than 100 x 100 pixels. The acknowledgment will remain posted on the City's web site up to six months.

6.4    Gifts of $5,000 or more may receive a narrative acknowledgment on the City's web site up to 100 words, which may describe both the donation and the work of the donor (individual, business or corporation). A visual image of up to 150 x 150 pixels may accompany the narrative acknowledgment. Acknowledgment of a gift of $5,000 or more will remain posted on the City's web site up to one year.

6.5    To apply this policy / procedure to gifts of labor, staff effort or other forms of in-kind support, a dollar value will be assigned equivalent to the amount the City would spend to purchase same.
