CANDIDATE REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES

1.0 PURPOSE:

The purpose of this policy is to prescribe guidelines for the reimbursement of certain expenses incurred by candidates competing for selected positions in the City of Renton. This policy is intended to recognize the competitive circumstances in recruiting a sufficient representation of qualified candidates for management positions by providing additional incentive for application as well as recognizing the prevailing practice of the majority of area public sector employees.

4.0 POLICY:

The City of Renton will provide the following reimbursement for selected candidates for their expenses incurred in conjunction with their participation in the selection process for management level positions:

4.1    Travel:

4.1.1    Round trip airline expenses (coach class) for candidates traveling in excess of 250 miles (one way).

4.1.2    Mileage expenses at $0.20 per mile for candidates traveling in excess of 100 miles (one way), but less than 250 miles.

4.2    Lodging:

Expenses for one night's accommodations not to exceed the area's average rate for single occupancy (may be extended if deemed necessary by the city).

4.3    Subsistence:

Reimbursable expenses will not exceed $20.00 per day.

4.4    Reimbursement:

All claims for expenses shall be on a reimbursable basis only. Candidates will provide proper vouchers/receipts for all expenses incurred for review and processing by the Finance Department. Payment shall be by warrant.

4.5    Eligibility:

Only those candidates invited to the City of Renton to compete in the selection process for the position of Department Head or Division Head shall be eligible for reimbursement of expenses. Other positions will be considered only after review and approval by the City Council.
