FIRE HYDRANT USE PERMITS

1.0 PURPOSE:

To establish a policy/procedure for fire hydrant use.

4.0 POLICY:

Authorization of use of fire hydrants or other valves intended for use by the Fire Department may be granted by the Fire Chief, and a permit shall be obtained from the Public Works Department.

5.0 DEFINITIONS:

Not applicable.

6.0 PROCEDURE:

6.1    Persons desiring use of fire hydrants or other valves shall make application to the Public Works Department or Water District.

6.2    All applications for fire hydrant use shall be forwarded to the Fire Department or Fire District for review and authorization.

6.3    Applicant shall provide information relative to the specific hydrant for which the use is requested and the proposed period of time that the hydrant is expected to be used.

6.4    Permits shall be granted by the Public Works Department and/or Water District upon confirmation by the Fire Department.

6.5    All use or testing of fire hydrants for other than emergency operations conducted by the Fire Department shall be coordinated with the Department of Public Works.

6.6    All fire hydrant water use shall be metered and charged in accordance with current ordinances and utility rates. City hydrant meters shall be prominently marked.
