RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMITS

1.0 PURPOSE:

To establish criteria in accordance with City code for the issuance of residential parking permits and fees.

2.0 ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED:

Public Works Department

Police Department

3.0 REFERENCE:

Ordinance 4260, Title X, Chapter 10 (Parking Regulations).

4.0 POLICY:

4.1    Parking permits will be issued to residents who have documented proof of residence in specific areas of Renton (see 5.0, Definitions). An area can be eligible for inclusion in that list if: (a) the area is residential, and (b) time-restricted parking is in effect.

4.2    The applicant must be the registered owner of the vehicle for which a permit is sought, and the vehicle must be a passenger vehicle.

4.3    One permit will be issued per residence, unless the residence is a legal apartment (proof of which must be supplied by the applicant).

4.4    Permits are not allowed for commercial zones or for individuals who are temporarily disabled.

4.5    Temporary overtime permits will be issued to construction contractors performing construction duties in a time-restricted parking area; section 5.0 of this policy will not apply. A temporary overtime permit will be valid for a period of one month from the date of issuance.

5.0 DEFINITIONS:

Areas eligible for parking permits include the following:

500 block north of Burnett

500 block north of Williams

500 block north of Wells

500 block north of Pelly

300 block north of Morris

300 block north of Whitworth

300 block north of Smithers

700 - 1000 block north of 5th

6.0 PROCEDURES:

6.1    An applicant meeting the required criteria will be issued a permit number for one vehicle. Permit information will include the applicant's name and address and the expiration date of the permit (one year from date of issuance).

6.2    The information will be entered in a permit log, and a copy of either the permit or log will be provided to the Police Department.

6.3    A fee of $25.00 will be assessed for issuance of the permit.

6.4    A parking permit is not transferable and may be revoked at any time.

6.5    A parking permit will become invalid if the permit holder changes residence.
