2.44.010 Creation and membership.

A fire department is created for the city of Shelton. (Ord. 1294 § 1, 1990: Amended during 1981 codification; prior code § 2.36.010)

2.44.020 Fire chief—Position created.

There is created the position of fire chief. (Ord. 1294 § 2, 1990: Ord. 983 § 1, 1979)

2.44.025 Appointment.

The fire chief shall be appointed by and shall serve at the will and pleasure of the city manager. (Ord. 1921-0518 (part), 2018; Ord. 1554-1101 § 3, 2001)

2.44.030 Fire chief—Duties.

The fire chief shall be the chief administrative officer of the fire department and shall serve as fire marshal for the city, and may delegate specific duties and responsibilities, pertaining to same, to other personnel as may be required. 2.44.035 Exclusion.

The position of the fire chief shall be excluded from the purview of the civil service commission. (Ord. 1554-1101 § 4, 2001)

2.44.060 Police powers of firemen.

All members of the fire department are vested with all the powers of a police officer of the city of Shelton, when carrying out the work of the department. (Prior code § 2.36.050)

2.44.070 Compensation.

The fire chief and all personnel of the fire department shall receive such compensation as is determined by the city council. (Ord. 1921-0518 (part), 2018; Ord. 1294 § 6, 1990: Amended during 1981 codification; prior code § 2.36.060)
