10.24.010 Classifications designated.

For purposes of traffic control and for application of uniform design standards adopted pursuant to Chapter 35.78 RCW, the streets of the city are classified and designated as “major arterials,” “secondary arterials” and “access streets,” as such terms are defined by RCW 35.78.010, as set forth in TMC 10.24.020 through 10.24.060. (Ord. A-547 § 1, 1961).

10.24.020 Major arterials designated.

The following streets shall be designated as major arterials:

A. Buena Way from South Elm Street north to city limits;

B. South Elm Street from Buena Way southwesterly to West First Avenue;

C. U.S. Highway 97 from South Elm Street south to Secondary State Highway 3-A;

D. Old Track Road from Buena Way northwesterly to city limits;

E. Washington Avenue from South Toppenish Avenue northwesterly to South Elm Street and then to city limits;

F. West First Avenue from Division Street west to west line of Carlson Addition;

G. South Division Street from West First Avenue South to city limits;

H. South Toppenish Avenue from Asotin Avenue southwesterly to West First Avenue;

I. East Toppenish Avenue from Asotin Avenue east to city limits;

J. Asotin Avenue from Buena Way southeasterly to East Second Avenue;

K. South G Street from East Toppenish Avenue south to city limits. (Ord. A-547 § 1(A), 1961).

10.24.030 Secondary arterials designated.

The following streets shall be designated as secondary arterials:

A. Jefferson Avenue from West First Avenue northwesterly to South Fir Street and thence across South Fir Street to Robart Lane;

B. East Second Avenue from East First Avenue southwesterly and westerly to Division Street;

C. West Second Avenue from Division Street west to U.S. Highway 97;

D. West Fourth Avenue from Division Street west to U.S. Highway 97;

E. East First Avenue from East Second Avenue east to city limits;

F. Lincoln Avenue from Asotin Avenue east to city limits;

G. Franklin Avenue from Buena Way east to Chehalis Avenue;

H. Chehalis Avenue from Franklin Avenue southeasterly to North B Street;

I. North B Street from Chehalis Avenue south to East Toppenish Avenue. (Ord. A-547 § 1(B), 1961).

10.24.040 Access streets designated.

All streets not hereinbefore classified as major arterials or secondary arterials shall be classified as access streets. (Ord. A-547 § 1(C), 1961).

10.24.050 Complete stop required when.

A. Any person operating or driving any vehicle entering upon a major or secondary arterial from any access street shall come to a complete stop before entering such arterial when stop signs are erected as provided by law.

B. Any person operating or driving any vehicle entering upon a major arterial from any secondary arterial shall come to a complete stop before entering such major arterial when stop signs are erected as provided by law. (Ord. A-547 § 2(a), (b), 1961).

10.24.060 Yielding right-of-way required when.

The operators of vehicles having stopped as required by TMC 10.24.050 shall look out for and give right-of-way to any vehicles upon the major or secondary arterials, or major arterials, as the case may be, simultaneously approaching a given point within the intersection, whether or not the vehicles of such operators who have stopped first reach and enter the intersection. (Ord. A-547 § 2(c), 1961).

10.24.070 Violation – Penalty.

Any person violating any provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable as set forth in Chapter 1.24 TMC. (Ord. A-547 § 3, 1961).
