2.32.010 Office established.

There is established in the city the office of fire marshal. (Ord. 414 § 1, 1974).

2.32.020 Appointment – Term.

The fire marshal shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the chief of the Stanwood volunteer fire department, and his appointment must be confirmed by the Stanwood city council, and, unless removed for cause he shall continue to serve until the expiration of the term of the mayor who has appointed him. (Ord. 414 § 2, 1974).

2.32.030 Removal.

After the fire marshal has been confirmed in his office, he may be removed only for those reasons and upon those terms and conditions set forth in SMC 2.20.050. (Ord. 414 § 3, 1974).

2.32.040 Reimbursement and compensation.

The fire marshal shall receive compensation as provided by a bargaining agreement or salary ordinance. Reimbursement for expenses shall be as provided in SMC 2.08.350. (Ord. 743 § 1, 1988; Ord. 433 § 1, 1975; Ord. 414 § 4, 1974).

2.32.050 Duty.

It shall be the duty of the fire marshal to assist the chief of the fire department in all matters in connection with the enforcement of the fire prevention code (Chapter 14.16 SMC) and all other laws and ordinances of the city pertaining to building construction, life safety, and any other ordinance concerned with the protection against hazards of fire. (Ord. 414 § 5, 1974).

2.32.060 Fee for fire inspections.

There shall be charged a fee of $10.00 for each fire inspection made by the city fire marshal. (Ord. 581 § 1, 1981).
