NONMOVING TRAFFIC VIOLATION AND REGISTRATION PROGRAM

10.70.010 Authority.

Pursuant to the provisions of Wis. Stat. § 345.285, the Town Board of the Town of East Troy elects to participate in the nonmoving traffic violation and registration program of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and shall pay the costs established by the Department under Wis. Stat. § 85.13. Such costs shall, in turn, be assessed against persons charged with nonmoving traffic violations pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 345.285(2)(d). (Ord. 2010-11 § 5. 2008 code § 6.19(1))

10.70.020 Purpose.

The purpose of this chapter is to discourage nonmoving traffic violations and to encourage the payment of forfeitures imposed for such violations. (2008 code § 6.19(2))

10.70.030 Penalties.

If a person who has been charged with a nonmoving traffic violation and does not either pay the forfeiture or appear in court in response to the citation for a nonmoving traffic violation on the date specified in the citation or, if no date is specified in the citation, within 28 days after the citation is issued, then the Town of East Troy may notify the Department of Transportation in the form and manner prescribed by the department that a citation has been issued to the person and the citation remains unpaid. In addition, the Town of East Troy shall specify whether the department is to suspend the registration of the vehicle or refuse registration of any vehicle owned by the person charged or both.
