2.08.010 Meetings—Time.
A. The regular meetings of the City Council shall be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each calendar month at the hour of seven p.m.
B. All meetings (including special meetings) shall be adjourned not later than the hour of ten-thirty p.m., unless the Council by a majority vote of all Councilmembers present at the meeting elect to continue the meeting to a later hour or to reconvene at a later date. (Ord. 1334 § 1, 2004: Ord. 754 § 1, 1974)
2.08.020 Compensation.
Effective November 19, 1988, City Councilmembers shall receive monthly compensation of three hundred dollars per month, in accordance with Government Code Section 36516. (Ord. 996 § 1, 1988: Ord. 896 § 1, 1981)
2.08.030 Filling council vacancies.
A. Purpose. From time to time vacancies occur during the term of a City Councilmember that require the City Council pursuant to Government Code Section 36512(b) to fill the vacancy either by appointment or special election. There is no opportunity to both provisionally fill the vacancy by appointment and then hold a special election at a convenient general election date. Pursuant to Government Code Section 36512(c) if the City Council adopts an ordinance providing that all such vacancies during the term of a Councilmember shall be filled by special election, then the said Code allows for an interim appointment pending the special election, and provides more flexibility in setting election dates.
B. Filling a Vacancy. When a vacancy occurs in the elective office of City Councilmember, during the term thereof, the vacancy shall be filled by special election.
1. The special election shall be called within thirty days of the occurrence of the vacancy.
2. The City Council may appoint a person who is qualified to hold the office, and that person shall hold the office until the time of the special election.
3. The special election shall be held on the next regularly established election date, or date of the regularly established general municipal election to be held throughout the City, not less than one hundred fourteen days from the call of the special election. (Ord. 1273 § 1, 1999)
