12.12.010 Permission required.

All persons who desire to dig any ditch, trench, or other excavation in any of the streets, alleys or other public places in the city shall, before removing any of the stone, paving, plank or other material on such street, alley or other public place, notify the superintendent of public works, in writing, of their desire so to do and designate particularly the locality where it is desired to do such work, and receive his permission so to do. (Code 1961 § 21-27).

12.12.020 Duration of opening.

No trench, ditch, or other excavation shall remain open more than 24 hours without the consent of the superintendent of public works. (Code 1961 § 21-28).

12.12.030 Lighting.

Any person having any open ditch, trench, or other excavation must maintain, while such work is in course of completion, and keep burning between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., good and sufficient lights at each end of and along the course of such trench, ditch, or other excavation. (Code 1961 § 21-29).

12.12.040 Restoration.

On the completion of any trench, ditch, or other excavation, the street, alley or other public place in which it is located must be left as nearly as possible in its original condition and to the satisfaction of the superintendent of public works. (Code 1961 § 21-30).
