 5.55.010 Private patrol operator – Defined.

A "private patrol operator," or "operator of a private patrol service," is a person who, for any consideration whatsoever:

Agrees to furnish, or furnishes, a watchman, guard, patrolman, or other person to protect persons or property or to prevent the theft, unlawful taking, loss, embezzlement, misappropriation, or concealment of any goods, wares, merchandise, money, bonds, stocks, notes, documents, papers or property of any kind; or performs the service of such watchman, guard, patrolman, or other person, for any of said purposes as defined in Section 7521 of the California Business and Professions Code.  5.55.020 Possession of current registration.

It shall be unlawful for an employee of a private patrol operator to engage in private patrol activities in the City without having in his/her possession evidence of current registration with the State of California pursuant to Section 7520 et seq. of the California Business and Professions Code. (Ord. 1310 § 1, 3-18-75. Formerly § 19-2).

 5.55.030 Presentation of registration upon demand.

An employee of a private patrol operator in private patrol activities in the City shall present evidence of current registration with the State of California pursuant to Section 7514(f) of the California Business and Professions Code upon demand of any member of the Police Department or Fire Department of the City. (Ord. 1310 § 1, 3-18-75. Formerly § 19-3).

 5.55.040 Restrictions on uniforms and vehicles.

(a) No person shall serve as a uniformed private patrol operator in the City unless and until the uniform or insignia to be worn shall first receive the written approval of the Chief of Police that it is clearly distinguishable from the uniforms worn by local regular law enforcement officers.

(b) No vehicle shall be used by an operator of a private patrol service unless and until the operator shall first receive the written approval of the Chief of Police that the vehicle is clearly distinguishable from the vehicles used by local regular law enforcement officers.
