3.38.010 Established.

There is established an advisory citizens committee to be known as the “Mercer Island senior commission.” (Ord. 07C-01 § 1).

3.38.020 Purpose – Function and duties.

The purpose of the commission shall be to advise the city council on issues related to Mercer Island seniors. The role of the Mercer Island senior commission is to study, review, evaluate, and make recommendations to the Mercer Island city council regarding matters affecting seniors age 55 and older. (Ord. 07C-01 § 1).

3.38.030 Membership – Term.

A. The Mercer Island senior commission shall consist of seven members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council. The initial positions for each member shall be determined by the mayor upon appointment. The mayor shall designate one or more city councilmembers to act as liaison between the city council and the Mercer Island senior commission.

B. The term of membership shall be four years and shall expire on May 31 of the last year of the term. The year of expiration of the terms of the positions shall be staggered with the following groups of positions expiring in successive years: Positions 1 and 2; Positions 3 and 4; Positions 5, 6 and 7.

C. Vacancies occurring in any position on the board shall be filled by appointment by the mayor with confirmation by the city council for the unexpired term. (Ord. 07C-01 § 1).

3.38.040 Meetings – Organization.

The senior commission shall determine the time and place of its meetings and other rules and regulations, which rules shall be reduced to writing and a copy filed with the city clerk. (Ord. 07C-01 § 1).
