EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAM

The city administrator is authorized to develop and implement an employee recognition program to recognize the outstanding performance of city employees. The award shall be given as provided:

Certificate, $150.00 (net amount*) and one day paid leave from work

Teamwork

Certificate, $150.00 (net amount*) and one day paid leave from work

*The monetary amount of the above awards shall be in such amounts as would result in the net amount set forth above after deduction of the amount required to be deducted by state or federal law.

Honorable Mention Awards

Certificate and one day paid leave from work, each

Excellent Suggestion Award

Certificate, and one day paid leave (up to three days under extraordinary circumstances)

Exemplary Performance Award

Certificate, and one day paid leave (up to three days under extraordinary circumstances)

The mayor, city council, and the city administrator shall make presentation of the recognition awards.

The annual customer service award shall recognize a non-executive team employee of the city who had distinguished himself or herself in his or her commitment to providing high quality service to those people who seek municipal services from the city.

The annual teamwork award shall recognize a non-executive team employee of the city who has demonstrated an outstanding emphasis of cooperation, team building and teamwork in working with other employees and departments of the city.

The excellent suggestion award shall recognize a non-executive employee who has made an acceptable suggestion for improvement of the organizational processes of the city that has resulted in significant cost savings to the city.

The exemplary performance award shall recognize a non-executive employee who has performed in an exemplary manner under difficult circumstances which resulted in significant improvement to the city.

Honorable mention awards may be awarded in those cases where, in the discretion of the city administrator, the number of employees deserving some form of recognition exceeds the number of annual recognition award categories.

For the purposes hereof, “non-executive team” employees refer to all regular employees of the city other than the mayor, city councilmembers, city administrator, and department directors.

The annual teamwork award and the annual customer service award are awards that would not be given more often than once per award per year. The excellent suggestion and exemplary performance awards are awards that are to be given as warranted for special recognition. These awards, or any of them, may not be given every year.

The city administrator and the directors of the departments of the city shall solicit from among the employees of the city suggestions for proposed recipients for the above awards. Employees of the city may propose the names of any “non-executive team” employees from within their own department or from another department of the city, and employees who are proposing the names of other employees are encouraged to communicate the reasons why such employees are being proposed. All such suggestions and proposals, together with supporting reasons, shall be forwarded to the city administrator for the determination of who the award recipients shall be.

Decisions of the city administrator in determining the recipients of the awards and/or in determining or interpreting the procedures or elements of the employee recognition program shall be final. (Ord. 1939 § 1, 2000)
