8.32.010 Definitions.

For purposes of this chapter, the following definitions apply:

"Occupied building" means any building, structure or improvement in which persons live, work or use in any manner or extent.

"Smoke detection device" means an assembly incorporating in one unit a device which detects visible or invisible particles of combustion, the control equipment, and the alarm-sounding device, operated from a power supply either in the unit or obtained at the point of installation. (Ord. 1276 §4, 1991).

8.32.020 Installation required.

Smoke detection devices shall be installed in all occupied buildings. (Ord. 1276 §1, 1991).

8.32.030 Installation and maintenance responsibility.

Installation of smoke detection shall be the responsibility of the owner. Maintenance of smoke detection devices shall be the responsibility of the occupant, who shall maintain the device as specified by the manufacturer. At the time of a vacancy, the owner shall insure that the smoke detection device is operational prior to the reoccupancy of the dwelling unit. (Ord. 1276 §3, 1991).

8.32.040 Conformance standards.

The smoke detection devices shall be designed, manufactured and installed inside dwelling units in conformance with:

A.  Nationally accepted standards; and

B.  As provided by RCW Chapter 34.05, rules and regulations promulgated by the Washington State Director of Community Development, through the Director of Fire protection. (Ord. 1276 §2, 1991).
