SIDE SEWER
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

13.48.010 General.
All materials, construction techniques, and testing in connection with installation of any side sewer and connection with a public sewer shall be in accordance with current APWA specifications, the latest version of the State of Washington Department of Ecology “Criteria for Sewage Works Design,” City standards, and any additional specific requirements in the IMC. (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
13.48.020 Inspection tees.
An inspection tee with vertical riser extending to within 18 inches of the ground surface shall be installed beyond the public way and within 5 feet of a residential property line for use as a cleanout for inspection. The vertical riser shall be fitted with a mechanical compression jointed plug or cap intended for use with the pipe being used. A piece of metal the size of an automobile brake drum or larger shall be placed above but not in contact with the plugs to facilitate locating with a pipe finder. (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
13.48.030 Laying of pipe.
A. Grade. All side sewers located on private property shall be laid with a minimum grade of 1.5 percent for 4-inch pipe and 1 percent for 6-inch pipe. Minimum grades for side sewers of 8-inch diameter and greater shall be in accordance with the latest version of the State of Washington Department of Ecology “Criteria for Sewage Works Design.”
B. Location. Side sewers parallel to the foundation wall of any building shall be laid not less than 30 inches therefrom. (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
13.48.040 Joint side sewers.
A. Size. All side sewers constructed from the public or private sewer in the street to the property line shall be 6-inch diameter. All side sewers serving a single residential structure shall be a minimum of 4 inches in diameter. Side sewers serving 2, 3, or 4 residential structures or structures other than single residences, the side sewer shall be a minimum of 6 inches in diameter.
B. Cleanouts. Where more than 1 residential structure is connected to the same side sewer, a 6-inch cleanout extending to within 18 inches of the ground surface will be required at the wye where the upper connection is made.
C. Number of Services Allowed. A maximum of 4 residential structures may be connected to a single side sewer. (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
13.48.050 Waterline crossings.
Wherever possible waterlines and sewer lines shall be laid at least 10 feet apart horizontally. Where it is necessary for sewer and waterlines to be closer than 10 feet, then the sewer shall be constructed in accordance with the latest version of the State of Washington Department of Ecology “Criteria for Sewage Works Design.” (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
13.48.060 Testing.
Side sewers and/or private sewers shall be tested for their entire length from the public sewer in accordance with the APWA and City standards. (Ord. 2186 § 2, 1998).
