2.20.010 Established – Composition.
There shall be and is now a volunteer board of firemen for the city. It shall consist of one fire chief and not more than 25 members. (Ord. 282 § 1, 1978).
2.20.020 Members – Removal.
Any person found not performing his duties properly, or for other reasons, may be removed from the membership roster of firemen, upon approval of the mayor and a majority vote from the firemen. (Ord. 282 § 2, 1978).
2.20.030 Members – Duties generally.
It shall be the duty of all members to answer calls to all fires in the city, for the extinguishing and control of fires and other duties necessary for the prevention of fire and the protection of life and property endangered by fire within the city. (Ord. 282 § 3, 1978).
2.20.040 Assistance to rural fire department.
The members shall also serve, in an assisting manner, the rural fire department as required, as necessary. This provision shall not always be mandatory. See KMC 2.24.010. (Ord. 282 § 4, 1978).
2.20.050 Adoption of bylaws and rules.
The department is required to adopt the bylaws and rules for the department, not to conflict with the laws of the state or the ordinances of the city. (Ord. 282 § 5, 1978).
2.20.060 Death, disability and retirement provisions.
The members of the volunteer fire department shall be enrolled under the provisions of Chapter 41.24 RCW entitled, “Volunteer Fireman's Relief and Pension Fund.” This shall be for coverage in case of death or disability. From 1976 forward, the men shall also become enrolled in the retirement pension fund, should they have the proper time of service to make them eligible. (Ord. 282 § 6, 1978).
