9.86.010 Discharge of firearms.

Except as provided below, it is unlawful for any person to discharge any firearm, air rifle, air pistol, BB or dart gun within the city limits. (Ord. 77-12 § 2 (part), 1977; Ord. 91-01 § 1, 1991.)

9.86.020 Exceptions.

The provisions of Section 9.86.010 do not apply to:

A.    A peace officer acting within the scope and authority of the officer’s job;

B.    Any person who is lawfully defending a person or property;

C.    Professional or public target ranges specifically authorized by the city council, or indoor air-propelled arm target ranges; or

D.    The discharge of a shotgun loaded with bird shot, or air-propelled firearm, provided that such discharge takes place at a distance greater than one half mile from a highway, road, street or building, whether occupied or unoccupied. (Ord. 91-01, § 2 (part), 1991.)

9.86.030 Definitions.

“Firearm” means a weapon including a pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun designed for discharging a shot capable of causing death or serious physical injury. (Ord. 91-01, § 2 (part), 1991.)
